// A PLAIN-LANGUAGE WALKTHROUGH OF THE ARMY FITNESS TEST
Recently overhauled, still phasing in. The AFT replaced the ACFT as the test of record on 1 June 2025. Combat-standard enforcement dates and how this interacts with body composition (AR 600-9 / WHtR) have shifted more than once. Confirm current dates and the body-fat exemption status with your unit before treating anything here as final.

OVERVIEW
What changed, and why, in the move from ACFT to AFT.
โœ‚๏ธ
What Changed
The Standing Power Throw was removed โ€” the event most linked to training injuries โ€” cutting the test from 6 events to 5, and the max score from 600 to 500.
  • Effective 1 June 2025, replacing the ACFT
  • Based on ~18 months of data across nearly a million ACFT administrations, with RAND Corporation support
  • Framed as a normal 3โ€“5 year evolution of Army fitness standards
๐Ÿ“š
Doctrinal Basis
FM 7-22 (Holistic Health and Fitness) and ATP 7-22.01 provide the doctrine โ€” holistic fitness over narrow event-specific training.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ
THE FIVE EVENTS
Same core lineup as the ACFT, minus the power throw.
๐Ÿ‹๏ธ
MDL โ€” Deadlift
3-rep max on a 60lb hex bar. Total-body and posterior-chain strength.
๐Ÿ’ช
HRP โ€” Hand-Release Push-Up
Max reps in 2 minutes. Upper-body pushing strength and trunk control.
๐Ÿƒ
SDC โ€” Sprint-Drag-Carry
Sprint, sled drag, shuffle, and carry. Anaerobic capacity and speed under load.
๐Ÿง˜
PLK โ€” Plank
Max-time plank hold. Core/trunk stability, lower injury risk than the old sit-up event.
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ
2MR โ€” Two-Mile Run
Timed 2-mile run. Aerobic endurance for rucking, sustained movement, and recovery.
๐Ÿ“Š
STANDARDS
Two standards, one hard rule that applies to both.
๐Ÿšง
The 60-Point Floor
Score under 60 on any single event and the whole test fails โ€” no matter how high your total is.
๐ŸŽฏ
General Standard โ€” 300
Sex- and age-normed scoring. Applies to most Soldiers (combat-enabling and other specialties).
โš”๏ธ
Combat Standard โ€” 350
Sex-neutral, age-normed scoring for 21 designated combat MOSs. Same raw thresholds for everyone in those jobs.
โญ
Promotion Points
AFT results feed into semi-centralized promotion points โ€” but only if the score is recorded in DTMS.
โ“
Body-Fat Exemption
Rescinded
A 465+ total with all events passing used to exempt a Soldier from AR 600-9 body-fat standards. That exemption is gone โ€” the WHtR-only standard from July 2026 has no AFT-score exemption.
๐Ÿšฉ
What Happens If You Fail
General standard failure = administrative flag, blocking promotions/reenlistment. Combat standard failure adds mandatory reclassification risk if not corrected by the deadline.
๐Ÿงฎ
SCORE CHECKER
Enter your five event scores (0โ€“100 each) to check against the standard. This doesn't convert raw reps/time/weight โ€” use the official AFT tables for that.
